About Elphinstone College
The Elphinstone College came into being long before India gained independence. It was set up in 1835 as a tribute to Mountstuart Elphinstone who served as a Governor of Mumbai between 1819 to 1827. It got affiliated to the in 1860. In recognition of its good performance the Elphinstone College was awarded "A" grade by National Assessment and Accredition Council (NAAC).
Elphinstone College provides hostel facilities for both its male and female students. The Govt. College hostel for boys is located at the Church gate (C Road) and it accommodates 50 male students of the Elphinstone College. 60 seats for the Girl students of the college are made available at Telang Memorial Girls' Hostel.
Courses at Elphinstone College
The Elphinstone College of Mumbai offers courses in all the three streams- arts science and Commerce.
The Junior College is meant for the class XI and XII the Degree College is meant
for the 3-year Bachelor degree courses.
At the junior College level it also offers Vocational Course in Electronics and Computers.
The Elphinstone College is also responsive to changes and offers some job oriented courses like B.Sc in Information Technology (IT) and Biotechnology.
Elphinstone College Admissions
Admission to the XI th Standard
For admission to the class XI of the Elphinstone College one needs to pass the Senior Secondary Education conducted by the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination. Students passing the xth standard from other equivalent board would be considered only after producing a provisional certificate issued by the Maharashtra State board and higher Secondary examination.
The necessary documents that need to be submitted along with the application form are - Original Copy of SSC/ICSE/ CBSE or equivalent mark sheet, School leaving certificate, valid caste certificate for the reserved category students and details of extra curricular activities. They also need to submit one photocopy of these certificates along with the original copies
Admission to the First Year degree courses:
Those who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board in the relevant stream is eligible to apply for these courses offered by the Elphinstone College.
The necessary documents that need to be submitted along with the application form are - Original Copy of the Higher Secondary Marksheet, School leaving certificate, valid caste certificate for the reserved category students and details of extra curricular activities. They also need to submit one photocopy of these certificates along with the original copies. The application forms and prospectus can be purchased from the College Office on payment of Rs. 50.
