About Ethiraj College
The Ethiraj College for Women came into existence in 1948 at the initiative of Thiru V.L.Ethiraj. He donated a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs for the establishment of the College. It is located at the heart of Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. For its continuous good performance Ethiraj College for Women has recently been awarded five stars by (National Assessment and Accredit ion Council (NAAC) and also a potential for excellence award by the University grants Commission. It has a dedicated team of 291 faculty members.
Facilities at Ethiraj College for Women
The hostel of the Ethiraj College for women has the capacity to accommodate 345 students. The block of the postgraduate students and undergraduate students are made separate. The college pays special attention to the underprivileged and outstanding sports personalities.
It also provides special amenities to the physically challenged candidates. The three storied library of the Ethiraj College for women stores more than 87,000 books and equipped with modern technologies and Internet center. Students at the Ethiraj College for Women are also encouraged actively to participate in various co curricular and extra curricular activities. Apart from providing free hostel accommodation to the outstanding sports women regular classes are also organized in Aerobics, karate and yoga.

The Ethiraj College for Women Chennai, offers regular and self- funded undergraduate and post graduate courses in various streams. It also offers research programme leading to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees.
It offers B.A regular courses in Economics, English literature, History, Tourism & Travel Management, B.SC courses in Zoology, Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology Chemistry Plant Biology & Plant Bio-Technology Physics, Mathematics, Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Service Management and B.Com. courses in Commerce and Corporate Secretaryship.
Self-Funded Undergraduate Courses at Ethiraj College
The self-Funded undergraduate courses are also available in B.A. (English Literature, English & Communication Skills and Business Economics), B.Sc (Mathematics, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Psychology
Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics) and
B.Com (Commerce, Corporate Secretaryship, Bank Management and Business Administration).
The Ethiraj College offers regular M.A. courses in Economics, English Literature, History, Business Economics,Tamil, Human Rights and Duties Education
(UGC funded). It also offers M.Sc in Zoology and Chemistry and Masters degree in Commerce (M.Com).
Self Funded Post Graduate courses are available in M.Sc. (Plant Biology & Plant Bio-Technology, Mathematics, Foods and Nutrition and Physics), M.Com (Commerce & Corporate Secretaryship, MBA (Master of Business Administration)
and MCA (Master of Computer Application).
One can also pursue a full time M.Phil Programme from the Ethiraj College for Women in English Literature, Economics, history, Commerce, Tamil, Zoology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The Ethiraj College also offers Doctoral programme leading to Ph.D degree in English literature, Economics, history, Tamil and Zoology.
Ethiraj College Admissions
The admission procedure at Ethiraj College for women starts generally in the month of May. Duly filled application forms are to be submitted within 10 working days of publication of results in Tamil Nadu. The selection process for admission to the under graduate and postgraduate courses starts from the 3rd day after the publication of the results of the qualifying examination.
For admission to the undergraduate courses candidates need to pass the 12th examination of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examination or its equivalent. For admission to the postgraduate courses candidates need to pass the graduation in the relevant stream from a recognized University.
The alumni association of the Ethiraj College for Women is very active and provides scholarship to the needy and deserving students. It is called the Old Students Association (OSA).
