About Shikshayatan College, Kolkata
Shri Shikshayatan College was established at the initiative of Shri Sitaram Seksaria and Shri Bhagirath Kanoria in 1955. Although it is a linguistic minority educational institution of the Marwari Community, Shikhayatan College admits girls from all communities irrespective of caste, class, caste or religion. It is administered and managed by the Marwari Balika Vidyalaya Society and affiliated to the . The academic session at this girl's college of Kolkata starts in the month of July. It offers undergraduate courses in all the three streams-arts, science and commerce.

Sri Shikshyatan College also encourages the students to take part in various co- curricular and extra curricular activities.
It has a basketball court and a games room equipped with facilities for carom, table tennis and chessboard. Yoga classes are also offered to the interested students.

The Shikshayatan College offers Honours and General courses in the following programme-

The B.Ed course is affiliated to the N.C.T.E. Eastern Region, Bhubaneshwar.The Honours and General Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is offered in Bengali, Education, English, Hindi, History and philosophy. The B.Sc degree is offered in Botany, Economics, Geography, Mathematics, Zoology & Chemistry.
In 2003 the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded Shri Shikshayatan College with B+ level. The admission process at the College starts in the month of May.
Admissions for 2009-2010 Academic Session
Candidates seeking admission into B.Com course need to submit Rs.400/- in cash along with filled in application form and copies of testimonials. All candidates must have acquired 60% in aggregate and 60% in either Mathematics or Accountancy in their senior secondary board examination.
Important dates for admission to the session of 2009-10 are:
- 29th May to 4th June, 2009 – Submission of online application
- 8th June, 2009 – 1st Honours list published on College notice board and website
- 10th to 12th June, 2009 – Admission of 1st list candidates
- 16th to 18th June, 2009 – Admission of 2nd list candidates
- 24th June to 2sn July, 2009 – Direct admission for Bengali Honours, Hindi Honours, Education Honours, Philosophy Honours, and B.A., B.Sc. general courses
