About Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics



Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics was set up in 1913 at the initiative of Mr. K. Subramani Aiyer, Sir Dinshaw Vachha, Sir Manmohandas Ramji and Lord Sydenham who was the then Governor of Bombay. It was named after Lord Sydenham as the college received a handsome donation of Rs. 1,85,000 from the Lord Sydenham Memorial Committee. The staff at Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics comprises of 41 teaching members and 37 non-teaching members.

Students at the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics get enough opportunities for engaging themselves in co- curricular and extra curricular activities.

Facilities at Sydenham College


It provides facilities for football, volleyball, badminton, tennis and swimming. They also have the option of participating in various clubs and societies like the Nature's club, Dramatics Society, Performing arts and many others.

The library of the college has more than 50000 books. Both male and female students of the Sydenham College are provided with hostel facilities. While the Boys are accommodated either at Government Boy's Hostel or I.Y. Boys College Hostel the girls are accommodated at Savitri Devi Phule hostel or Telang Girl's Hostel.

Admission to Courses at Sydenham College


Admission to the Higher Secondary Courses

: Admission to the First year of the Junior College is done on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the S.S.C. or equivalent examination.

Those candidates who have passed their 10th Board exam from a state other than Maharashtra will have to produce a "Provisional Eligibility Certificate" of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination. At the time of admission candidates will have to submit the pass certificate or the mark sheet of the SSC or equivalent examination and also the School-leaving certificate.


Admission to the First Year B.Com Course

:

Admission to the first year degree course is given to all the desiring students who have passed the higher secondary examination from the college. Admission to the few available seats is done on the basis of merit and reservation policy of the Government of Maharashtra. However these candidates need to produce a "Provisional Eligibility Certificate" from the University of Maharashtra, the H.S.C. pass certificate or mark sheet and the school-leaving certificate. Here again preference is given to sports persons.

Admission to the BMS Course

Admission to the BMS Course is done on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the Centralized Common Entrance Exam. This entrance exam carries 100 marks and of 1 hour 15 minute duration.

Admission to Bachelor of Commerce Banking & Insurance:

Admission to this course of Sydenham College is done on the basis of performance of the candidates in their 12th standard. Those who have secured 50 % (45% for reserved category students) marks in the final year of the higher Secondary examination are eligible to apply for this course.

Admission to M.Com:

Admission to M.Com: Admission to the M.Com course is regulated by the University of Mumbai.
