About NIT Tiruchirapally
The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapally was formerly known as Regional Engineering College. It was set up in 1964 jointly by the Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu primarily to provide quality technical Education and fulfill the manpower needs in the technology for the country. In the year 2003 it became a with the approval of UGC/AICTE.
NIT Tiruchirapally Facilities
The Octagon Computer center at NIT Trichy provides local area network for the whole campus. It is capable of providing computer training to 1000 students at a time. This center is equipped with all other up to date technologies including CAD/CAM center, a library, 8 mbps Internet connection through STPI, printing facility and in house maintenance facility. The library of NITT has more than 1 lakh documents and CD Roms workstations and Audio Visual Section.
It also has a branch of State Bank of India and a shopping complex to fulfill the necessary needs of the students. Students at NII T are also encouraged to actively engage themselves in other non-curricular and extra curricular activities. The sports complex has a well equipped and other indoor games facilities.
Courses at NIT Trichy:
The National institute of Technology Tiruchirapally provides undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programmes in all the departments of the Institute. The courses offered at NIT Trichi are-
- 4 year B. Tech. Degree courses
- 5 year B.Arch. Degree courses
- Full time and part time M.Tech Degree courses
- 2 year M.Sc. Degree courses (Applied Chemistry, Applied Electronics and Operational Research and Computer Applications)
- M.B.A. degree course
- M.C.A degree course
Apart from these Undergraduate and Post Graduate Degree courses doctoral Programme is also offered at all the departments of the institute.
NIT Tiruchirapally Admissions
Admission to Undergraduate Courses at NIT Tiruchirapally:
Admission to the undergraduate courses at NIT Trichy is done on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
However 50 % of the seats of NIT T are reserved for candidates from the state of Tamil Nadu.
Admission to the Postgraduate Courses at NIT Tiruchirapally:
Admission to the M.Tech courses at NIT Trichy are done either through a valid GATE Score or through the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET).In 2006 was conducted by the Anna University on 27th and 28th May. Admission to the M.Sc. Courses is done through an entrance Test conducted by the Institute. Admission to the M.B.A Programme of the NIT Trichy is done through the ATMA Test and group discussion and interview. Admission to the M.C.A programme of the institute depends on the performance of the candidates in the NIMCET Examination.
Online applications forms are available who are interested to apply via the online application forms. The forms with academic details are to be sent to the institute by the 6th April 2009. Application fee which is to be submitted is Rs 700 and it is Rs 350 for SC/ST candidates. Online forms are available from Feb 23, 2009.
