About Faculty of Law Punjab University


The faculty of Law has contributed generously in the establishment of Punjab University as one of the attractive educational institutes in India. Punjab University came into existence in 1882 at Lahore, now in Pakistan. Over the years it has seen tremendous growth and the main campus, spread over 550 acres of land, is now located in Chandigarh, India. The University has more than 55 teaching and research departments and 122 affiliated colleges.

Faculty of Law Punjab University Course Duration


The department of Law of the Punjab University offers two courses in law-one three year degree level course in law (LLB) and the other postgraduate course in law leading to the LLM degree. The 3 storied library building of the faculty of law store more than 55000 books and 52 journals and periodicals. It also has a digital Computer laboratory with 12 computers.

Courses at the Department of Law of the Punjab University


The faculty of Law of the Punjab University offers two courses. The Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) is of 3 years duration and the LLM degree is of 2 years. There are 150 seats for the morning batch and 150 seats for the evening batch of the LLB course. However 60 additional seats in the morning batch are reserved for the Nonresident Indians (NRIs). The LLM course has 20 seats for Indian residents and 5 seats for the Non Resident Indians (NRIs). The session of both the programme starts in the month of July. The course fee for the NRI students is $2000 per annum for the LLB course and $1500 for the LLM course.

Punjab University Law Courses Admissions Eligibility


For admission to the LL.B. course of the Punjab University candidates need to be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized University with at least 45% marks in aggregate (40% for SC). For admission to the LL.M course candidates need to have just a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree.

Admission to the department of Law, Punjab University


Candidates are selected to the courses on the basis of their performance in the qualifying examination and the OCET conducted by the Punjab University. In 2007 the OCET will be held between 1st June 2007 to 6th June 2007.
