About SIMC
Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication was founded in the year 1990 in Pune and is part of the Symbiosis International University (SIU). Initially, it was known as the Symbiosis Institute of Journalism & Communication (SIJC) and in 1999 it was renamed as the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC). The Institute has gone beyond journalism and has incorporated other courses related to media and communication. Therefore in 2007, it was again renamed as Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication. The curriculum at SIMC is designed to meet industry demands and students are trained to become competent professionals in the field of media and related businesses.

Admissions at Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication
Eligibility Criteria for Post Graduate Courses: Graduates from any stream from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) are eligible for admissions to Symbiosis Institute of Communication.
Students expecting their final year graduation results can also apply on condition that their admission will be subject to providing proof of graduation with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST), or equivalent grades by a stipulated date given by the institute.
Admission Procedure for Post-Graduate Courses:
Step 1. Applicants have to first sit for the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP). SNAP is a common written test that is conducted by Symbiosis for Postgraduate programmesin mass communication, management, information technology and geo-informatics. The SNAP Test score is used to shortlist candidates for the second round.
Step 2. The second step in the admission process includes a group discussion (GD) round followed by a home assignment and a personal interview.
Admission Procedure for Under-Graduate Courses:
Step 1. For admissions to Under Graduate programs, applicants have to take the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET). The SET scores are used to shortlist candidates for second round.
Step 2. The second step involved in the admissions to UG programmes includes a group discussion (GD) followed by a home assignment and a personal interview.
Facilities for International Students
The International Student's Cell of Symbiosis helps foreign students with admissions and offers the necessary guidance. The cell also promotes Indian higher education abroad.
All admissions for International Students are conducted through the International Office.

Activities at Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication
There are a number of clubs at Symbiosis Institute of Communication like Advertising Club, Film Club, Print Club, Events Clubs, PR Club, Culture Club and Library Club. Each of these clubs has members that are engaged in organizing various events, workshops, drama competitions and several other activities.
Events: Footprints is the annual series of media seminars at Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication.
Fest O' Comm is the annual communication festival, which is a culmination of the nationwide series of seminars arranged by the senior trainees at SIMC.
