INTRODUCTION
Miranda House or MH as it is shortly known, was founded in 1948 by the then Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Sir Maurice Gwyer. Over the years Miranda House has grown to be a premier Women’s Institute of Delhi University. The outstanding faculty at MH continuously focuses on academic excellence. Miranda House also provides the space to the students to freely express their views so that they can respond effectively to the changing circumstances. MH offers education to more than 2500 students. The Miranda House building along with the hostel is declared to be a heritage site and the renovation process is in progress. |
Admission to Mirada House College
Admission to most of the courses in Miranda House hinges o the percentage of marks the candidate has secured in the Senior Secondary High School examination as the college declares a cut-off list for admission to various undergraduate courses every year. However in admission to B.A. (Hons) English 50% weightage is given to the Entrance test and 50% weightage is give to aggregate % of marks in 1 language and 3 elective subjects. Admission to Miranda House on the basis of merit in Sports and Extra curricular activities is also available for limited seats.
Courses at Miranda House College
The Undergraduate Courses include the following Programmes-
B.A. Programme, B.A. Programme with functional Hindi, B.A. (hons) in English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, history, Philosophy, Geography, mathematics, Sanskrit, Bengali, Music, BSc. (Hons) in Physics, chemistry, Botany Zoology, Mathematics, B. Sc. Life Sciences, B. Sc. Applied Physical Sciences, B. El. Ed. (4 year course).
The Postgraduate Courses include the following Programmes-
The M.A.programme in Miranda include all the courses that are offered in B.A. except Political Science, Geography and Sociology. In the M.A. programme in addition to all the courses that are offered in the B.Sc. programme M.Sc. in Anthropology is also offered.
Miranda House has started offering two add-o courses in – one in tourism and the other is on Foreign Languages. The certificate course in tourism is offered by the department of Geography in collaboration with the Bird Education Society for travel and tourism, Connaught place, New Delhi. Miranda house also offers One-year certificate courses in French, German and Spanish in collaboration with Germanic and romance studies of University of Delhi. MH also offers a course in Russian. In addition to all these Miranda House also offers one-month adjunct courses in Media studies, Computer applications and operations research.
Admission to Certificate course in Tourism: The admission for 20 seats to this certificate course in tourism is based on the performance of the interview. The minimum educational qualification needed for this course is 10+2 pass. The total course fee is 35000 and it is payable in three installments.
