INTRODUCTION
The Saint Xavier's College has been named after a Jesuit Saint of the 16th Century, St Francis Xavier who traveled to India during that period. The Society of Jesus established the famous college in 1540. Ever since its inception the emphasis has been on critical and creative thinking in order to bring up well-educated individuals.
The college seeks to impart all round education to the students through the promotion of human values and principles. The emphasis is also on developing the students from the marginalized sections of the society.
St. Xavier’s College, a catholic institution, was affiliated to the University of Bombay on January 30, 1869. The college awards degrees in arts, science and commerce. |
The college is part of the large and impressive educational efforts of the Jesuits in India and is famous for its well-designed curriculum. A Governing Body of the Society of Jesus manages the college. The vice chairman of the governing body serves as the Rector of the college, and the Secretary and Chief Executive of the body serves as the Principal of the college.
The college has recently been highly appreciated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its excellent educational efforts.The college has a vast collection of approximately 120,000 volumes of books with some of them dating back to the 16th Century.

Admissions, Results at St Xavier’s College, Mumbai
The admission to the college is strictly based on merit. However, merit strictly doesn’t mean percentage of marks only. There is consideration to Catholics as per the minority rights enshrined in the Constitution of India. There is also a special consideration to students who are economically and socially less privileged. Those belonging to the schedule castes and tribes are also preferred.
Application process for admission to junior college begins the day the SSC results of the Maharashtra State Board are announced while the application process for admission to the first year of the senior college begins the day the H.S.C. results of the Maharashtra State Board are announced.
