About St. Xavier’s College
St. Xavier’s is the first autonomous college under Calcutta University in the state of West Bengal. Founded in the year 1860 by a Catholic Christian religious body – the Society of Jesus – St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata was affiliated to the Calcutta University in 1862. This college offers both UG and PG courses under five faculties, which are: Science, Arts, Commerce, Education, and Business Administration.

Eligibility for Applying
- Students who have passed the 10+2 examination within the last 3 years can apply for any or as many UG courses.
- A student must score pass marks in English at the XIIth standard, otherwise the application of that student will be rejected by the college.
- Calculate the aggregate score with the score of the best 4 subjects at the 10+2 level. These 4 subjects include the compulsory subjects as it is indicated in the online application forms. Subjects like Education studies / Environment Science are excluded.
Cut-off Marks for Admission
For applying to B.B.A. & B. Com:
- Must have 60% aggregate with 45% marks in individual subjects
- English and Maths / Business Maths/ Business Economics & Maths are compulsory
For applying to B.A.:
- Political Science Hons: 60% aggregate
- English Hons: (WB Board) Aggregate 55%; (Other Boards) Aggregate 70%
- Sociology Hons: 60% aggregate
- B.A. General: 55% aggregate
For applying to B. Sc.:
- Chemistry Honours: Aggregate 60% + Chemistry 60%
- Physics Honours: Aggregate 60% + Physics 60%
- Maths Hons: Aggregate 60% + Maths 60%
- Computer Science Hons: Aggregate 60% + Maths 60%
- Statistics Hons: Aggregate 60% + Maths 60%
- Economics Hons: Aggregate 60% + Maths 60%
- Microbiology Hons: Aggregate 60% + Chemistry 60%
- B. Sc. General: Aggregate 55%
- Biotechnology (5 yrs integrated): Aggregate 60% + Chemistry 60%
- Mass Com. Video: Aggregate 60%
Admission to UG Courses
Application Forms
- The online admission forms are made available in the college’s home site from the evening of May 28, along with the revised norms and guidelines laid down by the Calcutta University.
- Those candidates, who have already applied and paid the required amount of application fee, don’t need to reapply.
- All application forms are available online through the college’s personal website. No printed forms are available.
- The online forms for admission to UG courses are available from June 8.
- Last date for online application: June 14.
- Last date for payment of application fee: June 15.
Admission Categories
- Category I: GENERAL. These candidates are selected on merit basis.
- Category II: Catholics and other Christian denominations. This category also includes OBC, SC/ST, financially and socially marginalized candidates.
- Category III: This category includes candidates who are outstanding sports persons, artists and performers (like singers, painters, actors, dancers, directors, etc.), NCC cadets, creative writers, social workers, alumni who has long standing record of providing service to the society and college.
