Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam is conducted for recruiting personnel to the Indian Army; one of the branches of the Indian Armed Forces responsible for conducting land based military operations in India. Imbued with the spirit of 'service before self', the Indian Army is primarily responsible for maintaining the peace and security of the country by defending it against external aggression, patrolling the borders, conducting counter terrorist operations, restoring internal strife and extending help in natural calamities. With total troop strength of around 2.5 million (1.3 million active and 1.2 million reserve), the Indian Army is the second largest standing army in the world and has rich combat experience in diverse terrains across India.

Every year, the Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam is held for recruiting personnel to the Indian Army, qualifying which the short listed candidates are imparted the required training to become fully capable of dedicating themselves to the honorable task of safeguarding the nation.

Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam Application Detail

:

Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam is held four times a year, the applications for which are invited through advertisements published in the Employment News and other leading newspapers. Interested candidates may collect blank application forms that are available, free of cost, at local Recruitment Offices, District Collector's Office, Zila Parishads and Employment Exchanges. Candidates are at liberty to send their applications on plain paper, handwritten / typed but as per the given format.

Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam Eligibility Criteria

:

Unmarried male Indian citizens (subjects of Nepal also) belonging to the age group of 16 to 23 years and who have passed the Matriculation / equivalent examination with English and Mathematics are eligible to apply for the Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam.

Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam Selection Procedure

:

Selections for the Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam are made on the basis of a written test divided into two parts. The First Paper contains three sections: General Intelligence, Mathematical Aptitude and General Knowledge. The Second Paper contains descriptive type questions on English and Mathematics. For the English section, the candidate is asked to write a Paragraph (20 marks) of about 15 sentences on one topic out of three or four topics followed by a Comprehension passage (15 marks) (a paragraph followed by 5 questions) and questions on English Grammar (15 marks).


The Mathematics section (5 questions of 10 marks each) usually stresses on Fractions, Percentage, Interest, Areas and Factorization. Each Test is of 45 minutes duration and carries maximum marks of 100. Only the successful candidates will be put through the aptitude test and interview. Final selection will be on basis of Merit.

Physical Standards for Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam

:

  • Minimum Height of the candidates must be 167 cm, which can be relaxed for candidates belonging to certain regions.
  • Chest Measurement: On expansion, the candidate's chest measurement should not be less than 77 cm with minimum range of expansion of 5 cm.
  • Minimum Weight of the candidates must be 50 kilograms, which can be relaxed for candidates belonging to certain regions.
  • General Health: The candidate must be free of all communicable diseases and cardiovascular, medical or surgical deformities or infection.
Salary and Other Benefits:

Those candidates, who are able to clear this test in English, will be called for an interview on the same date.

A candidate selected through the Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam gets a salary of about Rs.4000 on completion of training. Other Benefits include free ration, clothing, accommodation and allied services, medical treatment for self and family, group housing scheme benefits, building loan facilities, canteen facilities, etc.

Promotion Prospects:

A candidate recruited through the Indian Army Soldiers Clerks Exam can become a Commissioned Officer subject to certain conditions. Numerous NCO / JCO posts have been created to improve career prospects and post retirement benefits.
