The National Defence Academy (NDA) Examinations is an entrance examination organized at the all India level by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruiting personnel for the Army, Navy and Air Force of the National Defence Academy. The NDA examinations are held twice a year, normally in the month of April and September and successful candidates are required to undergo training in NDA for a period of 3 years.
The National Defence Academy is unique in the sense that it offers the inductees one of the following degrees once they complete their 3 years of training:
- B.A.
- B.Sc
- Graduate in Computer Science
Those who join the technical disciplines are awarded graduate and postgraduate degrees and that too from the best institutes of technology in the country. If the candidates are fortunate enough to be chosen for the Defense Services Staff College, a Master of Science Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies is conferred on them.
Once a candidate successfully qualifies in the NDA entrance examination, he should indicate his choice of preference for the academy he wishes to join i.e. either the National Defence Academy or the Naval Academy. If NDA is the choice, the candidate should choose either the Army or the Navy or the Air Force
NDA Examination Notification:
The date of the examinations are notified for the general public in the Employment News and also in all the leading newspapers of India once in October - November and again in April - May.
NDA Examination Schedule:
The NDA examinations are held once during April-May and again during September-October.
NDA Examination Eligibility :
Age
- A candidate should be between 16 ½ and 19 years as on the date of publication of the notification.
Education:
For Army
Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination on any other examination having the same educational value
For Air Force and Navy :
Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination on any other examination having the same educational value
Those candidates who have appeared for their Class XII examination are also eligible. However, these candidates must furnish documentary evidence towards proof of passing of the Class XII examination.
Pattern of Examination
The following is the pattern of examination for the NDA Entrance Examinations:
An objective type written test in Mathematics: 300 marks
An objective type written test in General Ability: 600 marks
