Geologists Exam

The Geologists Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India, an autonomous entity established in 1950 under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. The Geologists Examination is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment of candidates to the Geological Survey of India and the Central Ground Water Board for posts like Geologist (Junior), Assistant Geologist, Junior Hydrogeologist and Assistant Hydrogeologist. Notifications for the Geologists Examination are published every year in the month of June and the written examinations are conducted in the month of November.

Geologists Examination Application Details



Notifications regarding the Geologists Examination are published every year in the month of June in the Employment News and other leading newspapers of India. Candidates are required to fill in the application forms as per the given proforma and mail the same to the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission.

Geologists Exam Eligibility Criteria



Candidates applying for the Geologists Exam must possess any of the following qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Geology/Applied Geology or Marine Geology from any recognized university of India .
  • Master's degree in Mineral exploration from any recognized university of India.
  • Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
  • Master's degree in Hydrogeology from any recognized university of India.
Candidates must belong to the age group of 21-32 years on 1st January of the year of Examination. Reservations as per governmental norms are applicable regarding age limits and job vacancies.

Geologists Exam Selection Procedure



Selections for the Geologists Exam are made on the basis of a written test comprising of five papers in English, Geology Paper-I, Geology Paper-II, Geology Paper-III and Hydrogeology. The Test carries maximum marks of 900. Conventional Essay Type Questions will be asked. All answers are to be written in English only. All questions will be of the M.Sc. standard.

Candidates short listed in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview, which carries maximum marks of 200. Successful candidates will be recommended for appointment after the interviews.
