Distance Learning

Distance learning basically means imparting education to students who are not present physically in a classroom. Students are not able to attend school in person as they are "separated by time and distance".

In India the first Open University started operating in the year 1982. The concept of distance learning in India is rapidly gaining pace. Distance learning is of 2 types - Open system and Regular system.

In case of the former, no formal qualification is required if you want to pursue a course. However, few institutions that offer open system of distance education require a student to have attained at least 18 years of age for admission into bachelor programs and 21 years in case of a post graduate program. In the latter (regular system), the eligibility criteria for seeking admission into a distance learning program is same as in case of a classroom academic program. Few universities require students to qualify in a written test.
