IIM Shillong set to start its journey
Wednesday, August 6 2008:
New Delhi:The six IIMs that have made India proud has welcomed a new sibling in the family with the set up of the 7th IIM at picturesque Shillong. Named after a former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, IIM Shillong seems all set to start its glorious journey and expected to set a new bench mark of education quality in the North Eastern region of India. Apart from its flagship PG Programe in Management, IIM Shillong would also be offering Fellow Programme in Management and Management Development Programmes. Wile admission process for PG programme in Management starts with the filling up of the CAT 2008 form, applications for FPMs and MDPs would be invited soon. The Accelerated Learning Center of IIM Shillong is also providing a six month certificate course in retail management.
Those who are selected to the IIM Shillong would have to pay Rs. 190, 000 for the first year of the two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management Programme. It can here be noted that IIM Shillong is a result of the Government's initiative to scale up the dwindling higher education sector in the country and also to enhance the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by setting up new IIMs, IITs, IIScs, Central Universities and other institutes of higher education. In contrast to many of the newly set up IITs, IIM Shillong seems to be well equipped to face the challenge of maintaining the standard of IIMs. It is pertinent here to note that the IIT administration is expected to face a great challenge of maintaining the quality of education due to lack of adequate infrastructure and faculty.
