Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur – (IIT Kharagpur), considered as one of the esteemed engineering institutions in India, admits students on the basis of their performance in JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) and GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
If you are seeking admission to undergraduate programmes in IIT Kharagpur, you have to appear in the IIT-JEE. For the admissions to postgraduate programmes you are required to crack GATE.

Eligibility for IIT-JEE
- You are eligible to appear in the entrance test if you have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination with at least 60% marks in aggregate in the Board Examination.
- The percentage to be scored is 55% for SC/ST and PD.
- You can sit in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) only for two consecutive years.
- Your age should be within 25 years or else you are not eligible.
The JEE Test
Paper-1 and Paper-2 contains three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The questions are of objective type which tests your comprehension and analytical ability.

Exam date of IIT JEE: April 13, 2008
Result of IIT JEE: May 30, 2008

Eligibility for IIT-GATE
- You must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy and such related programmes.
- If you have a professional degree recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech, you are eligible for the exam.
Details of the Examination
- The question paper is divided into two sections of 75 marks each. While Section A contains Objective Type questions, Section B has Problem Type questions.
- The question paper is of 3 hours duration with a total of 150 marks.
- You have to opt for your subject (Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering., Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering) and study according to the syllabus of the GATE.
- The GATE scores are valid for 2 years and if you score less than 70 percentile no score card is provided to you.
