Introduction
The Thapar University was earlier known as Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology. It was named after Lala Karam Chand Thapar, the founder of the Patiala Technical Education Trust. Thapar University, or T.U., as it is popularly known, came into existence as a result of collaboration between the then State of Patiala and East Punjab State Union, the Central government and the Patiala Technical Education Trust.
The MCA programme of the Thapar University is sponsored by the U.G.C. The entrance test for the admission to the 120 seats of the regular MCA programme in the year 2009 will be held on 14th June.
Eligibility for the Thapar University MCA Entrance Exam: For admission to the MCA programme of the Thapar University, candidates need to pass their graduation under the 10+2+3 pattern with mathematics as one of the subjects (or at the 10+2 level). The NRI candidates and Foreign Nationals need to have 60% marks in their 3 year Bachelor degree.
Test Pattern: The Thapar University MCA Entrance test will consist of one paper of 3 hours duration. It is designed mainly to test the knowledge of candidates in Mathematics, Computer Awareness, General Knowledge and Analytical ability.
Obtaining the Application Form of the Thapar University MCA Entrance Test: The application form along with the information brochure can be purchased from the University Counter on cash payment of Rs. 1000/. It can also be obtained through post by sending a demand draft of Rs. 1050/- drawn in favor of Registrar, T.U., payable at Patiala.
However the application forms can also be downloaded from the Thapar University website- www.tiet.ac.in and payment of Rs. 1000/ has to be done by sending a demand draft along with the duly filled application from (They will also have to send a demand draft of Rs. 1000/ as examination fee). The application forms will be available in the University Counter from the 28th of March 2008.
Submitting the Application form for the MCA Entrance Test: Duly filled application form along with the demand draft of Rs. 1000/- as examination fee (and a caste certificate where applicable) should reach the Registrar, Thapar University, Patiala-147004, Punjab, India on or before 26th of May, 2008. However application forms will be accepted up to 2nd June 2008 with a late fee of Rs 1000/-.
Those who download the application form should send a crossed demand draft of Rs. 1000/ in addition to Rs. 1000/- examination fee.
