Interview with Secretary, Civil Aviation Ministry
Answers from Ashok Chawala, Secretary, Civil Aviation Ministry:
Q1. With new age-groups/ demographic blocs entering into the job market, what are the career options available in Indian Aviation Industry?
Ans. Aviation industry is expanding and several new career prospects are falling in the line. I think, this industry can digest more youth than any other field. It is also because of the growth of private operators in the field.
2. Is there any specific policy of the Ministry to take care of both the young minds and the aviation sector in the tune with global market ?
Ans. Though the field is wide open for private players, the ministry has several programmes to attract young people towards it so that they take it up as a career. But we also have to ensure that there are proper guidelines and benchmark to meet the global standards.
3. Is the Ministry or the government overall thinking about tapping the huge talent pool of the medium and small cities and rural India to tackle the manpower shortage in aviation industry?
Ans. Students are coming from small cities also. The sector is becoming popular everywhere as it has some special attraction attached with it. As you can see, many aviation-related institutes are coming up in those cities. We are also looking forward to tap the talent available.
4. Are the private institutes promising the young people good career options in aviation sector, delivering good products?
Ans. Yes. Definitely private institutes are doing a good job in nurturing the talents. They have raised the standards and are providing necessary facilities to the students. And the standard should be maintained.
5. Why there is a clear divide in the employment pattern across the English-Hindi barrier in the aviation sector?
Ans. It is because civil aviation field is largely inclined towards international norms. However, with growing domestic carriers, this gap may be bridged.
6. Is the Ministry planning to launch a campaign on the lines of the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force to join the Aviation sector?
Ans. We do not have such plan for now.
7. Any message to the young minds in choosing their career?
Ans. Very good luck! The ministry is aware of the talent pool available here. And I am sure, the demand for talented people will grow with time.
