As a good score in GATE can help those who wish to pursue higher education in engineering, pharmacy and some disciplines of science from government institutes of India, quite a good number of students take the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. One can appear in GATE at various stages of their career.
The eligibility conditions for appearing in GATE 2008 are as given under-
Candidates with B.Tech/B.E./ B.Arch/ B.Pharma (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes are eligible to appear for GATE 2008.
Those with a Master degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes can also appear in the GATE 2008.
Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology can also appear in the GATE 2008.
Those who have obtained qualifications through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses can also take the GATE 2008.
