How to Apply for GATE
Applying for GATE 2008 is easy as both online and offline applications for GATE 2008 are accepted. In order to fill the online application, one first needs to make the payment of application fee that can be made through Demand Draft. The demand drafts of Rs. 900 for general category and Rs. 400 for SC/ST candidates should be made in favor Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on any nationalized bank payable at Bangalore. After filling the online application form, one needs to generate a PDF document of the online application form and print it.
On the printed application form, you need to paste a non-attested photo of yourself in the space provided. You also need to sign in the space provided using black ballpoint pen for specimen signature and the declaration at the bottom of the application form.
The duly filled printed online application form along with the demand draft and if applicable, the SC/ST and/or Disability certificates should be sent in an application form to THE CHAIRMAN, GATE, INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, BANGALORE - 560012 by SPEED/ REGISTERED POST only.
Obtaining the Offline Application Form: One can obtain the application form either on payment of cash from the designated bank braches or by sending a demand draft of Rs. 1000/- for general category candidates or Rs. 500/- for SC/ST category candidates along with a request letter and two self addressed slips to the Chairman of GATE of the corresponding zonal Office.
Submitting the Offline Application form:The duly filled BDS cum Application Form along with the bank pay-in-slip/receipt of payment, Acknowledgement card and if applicable, the SC/ST and /or Disability certificates should be sent in the provided Envelope to the respective zonal GATE office depending on the first choice of the examination city where the candidate wishes to appear. It can be handed over personally to the respective zonal GATE office or be sent by Speed/ Registered post only.
