GRE General Test is the most sought after Standardized Test by those who want to pursue higher education in English speaking countries and especially in America and Canada. What is the GRE general Test about?
Unrelated to any particular field of study, this GRE General Test is conducted to measure the capability of verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing.
Significance of GRE General Test
Several accredited Business Schools or Graduate Schools or even any division of such a school can ask a candidate to appear for the GRE General Test. You can also submit the scores of your test to a non-accredited School, if it is sanctioned by GRE® Board.

Procedure for Registration:
- You can pay while registering for the test by credit card, money order, voucher or certified check.
- You can also pay by UNESCO coupons or Quick Pay mode of Western Union if you register for a paper-based test.
- An applicant can also make a payment by check.
- Apart from US dollars, other accepted forms of currencies are Swiss franc, Danish kroner, British pound, Australian dollar, Japanese yen, Norwegian kroner, Swedish kroner, Canadian dollar, Euro, Japanese yen, Singapore dollar and New Zealand dollar.
- While registering for a computer-based test in Canada, the US or its territory, you can register online by credit card, mail (download the Authorization Voucher Request Form and send the filled-in form to the address mentioned on the form) or phone. From other locations, you can register online (except in Nigeria), by calling the Regional Registration Center, or mailing or faxing the
- International Test Scheduling Form to the suitable RRC.
- You can only register by mail or online for a paper-based test. You can download the GRE Registration Form from

Test Centers for GRE General Test
This test is conducted at any of the test centers in the US or several other countries, so you can choose the one convenient for you. Apart from the computer-based test centers, there are many paper-based test centers too.
Pattern of GRE General Test
- You can take either the computer-based test or a paper-based one.
- There are sections on Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Analytical Writing in the computer-based and paper-based tests.
- There can be also an unidentified part in the test, which is not considered for score.
- Following the section on analytical writing, the verbal or the quantitative sections are placed in the test.
- When you register for the computer based general test, you will be sent a CD-ROM with GRE Powerprep® software for preparing for the test. You can also download the software for free.
Dates for GRE General Test:
If you appear for the computer-based test, you can take it any time in a year. However, the exam date is fixed on the basis of first-come, first-served mode. The paper-based test centers function on all dates of tests.
