Higher Education in Haryana
A lot of expansion has been taking place in the field of higher education in Haryana. The government of Haryana has allocated approximately Rs. 115.55 crore for 2007-08 in order to promote quality education to all. The Government has further decided to set up Rajiv Gandhi Education City at Sonipat, where institutions for Higher Learning/Research will be founded. Another project called Education through Satellite (EDUSAT) has been put into operation in all the government colleges in Haryana. According to a recent report, the state government is going to sanction 50 more private engineering colleges in Haryana in 2008, which will lead to 112 colleges in total.
The average literacy rate in Haryana was at 67.9% as per the 2001 census. The literacy rate of women in the state is comparatively lower than the number of males who are literate. The government has taken steps to facilitate higher studies among the women in Haryana.

From the academic session 2005-06 the state Government has introduced several job oriented courses in some of the government colleges in Haryana. These include bachelor’s degree courses in Tourism Management, Information Management, Business Administration, Computer Application, Mass Communication and Library and Information Science just to cite a few. New courses that have been introduced at various colleges in Haryana include Functional English, Event Management, Insurance, E-Marketing, Data Care Management, Disaster Management and Audio Video Broad Casting & Live Performance among others.
