Universities in Haryana

Haryana is one of the states in North India forming the northern, southern and western borders of Delhi. The state has a network of universities and institutions for higher education in a number of specialized disciplines. According to the 2001-2002 census the literacy rate of Haryana stands at 68.59 %. The state government has made every effort to make education available to every section of society. At present there are a number of recognized universities in Haryana that offer a wide range of specialized programs. Some institutes in Haryana have been given the status of deemed university under the University Grants Commission (UGG) Act.

Courses offered at Universities in Haryana

The Universities in Haryana offer courses in all the major disciplines of study such as humanities, science and commerce. Some of the specialized programs at the post graduate and doctoral level offered by the universities include medicine, agriculture, law, technical education as well as research in dairy farming. An increasing number of students from various parts of India apply for the higher studies program at the different universities in Haryana. Some universities also offer job oriented vocational courses that enhance the career prospects of students.

Types of Universities in Haryana

Haryana is home to several universities offering both regular programs as well as specialized full time courses. Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology in Hisar, Kurukshetra University and Chaudhary Devi Lal University are the centers for technical education and management studies in Haryana. The Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University is involved in education and research related to agriculture. This university is located at Hisar and is one of the largest agricultural universities in Asia. Another specialized deemed university in Haryana is the National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal. It offers education in dairy science.
