Although often unacknowledged, libraries in India have always been playing a very important role in the educational scenario of the country. Libraries have become an integral part of almost all educational institutes in India. Apart from the libraries of the particular institutes, various public libraries have also come up to serve the needs of the educated. Most of these Indian libraries not only allow the members to borrow books or other resources, but also provides reading rooms where they can study peacefully.
However over the years, the meaning of libraries have also changed to a great extent. It no longer signifies a building where only books are collected. It can systematically store all sources of knowledge relevant for the members. Moreover with advancement of technologies, most of the libraries in India are getting interconnected. Some of these libraries in India also allow the members to check the availability of the books or other resources online. But all the libraries in India do not follow uniform rules of providing membership facility or lending books. Moreover as some of the libraries store information only on particular subjects, it is important to know their details.
