The University of Mumbai is amongst the oldest Universities in India. In fact, University of Mumbai happens to be amongst the first three Universities in the country. The Mumbai University is located in Maharashtra state of India. NAAC has awarded a five-star ranking to the university. The University offers Bachelors, Masters as well as Doctoral degrees to the students.
The University of Mumbai offers more than 1,100 degrees and diplomas each year and more than 80,000 candidates apply for these degrees.
Also, the university maintains one of the main computer Servers of Mumbai. MU also offers hostel facilities to foreign students.
History of University of Mumbai
The University of Mumbai was initially known as University of Bombay. The university was established in the year 1857 after "Wood's Education Dispatch".
Initially, the University offered only undergraduate courses and conducted examinations. However, gradually, it came up with research facilities and Post-Graduate courses. These began with the School of Sociology and Civics & Politics. The Bombay University Act of 1953 led to a significant re-organization in the University.
