About the state of Higher Education in Mizoram
The Directorate of Higher & Technical Education of the Government of Mizoram supervises the quality of Higher Education imparted in the state. There are a number of private colleges in Mizoram including Open University colleges and Law schools The state government aims at constant development of the education system by upgrading the standard of regional colleges in Mizoram and organizing the academic structure according to the standards of University Grants Commission. The academic programs conducted in most of the Mizoram Colleges including 2 professional institutes are approved by Mizoram University and more than 10,000 students are enrolled in these institutes of higher education. About 27 undergraduate colleges are affiliated to Mizoram University, which has 28 academic departments. With a high literacy of about 82 %, this state boasts of an academically ambitious young population.
