Several initiatives taken by the state government has resulted in the significant development of education in the state of Rajasthan. The literacy rate of the state has also witnessed a steady growth in the recent years. According to 2001 census report it was 61.03% which included male and female literacy rate of 76.46% and 44.34% respectively. However, in spite of the growth in the literacy rate, the number of female literates is still much lesser than the male who are literate. The state government has implemented a number of policies for promoting education among the masses and to enhance the educational services of the state.
