Hebron School Tamil Nadu

About: The Hebron School Tamil Nadu is one of the Christian residential schools in India. Established in the year 1899, the school functions as an independent International School. The school is recognized by the Government of India, and controlled by the Hebron Schools' Association and its Council.

Tamil Nadu's Hebron School has two campuses – one in Lushington and the other in Selborne. The campuses are 2km apart. While the Lushington Campus houses the main buildings of Hebron School Tamil Nadu, the Selborne Campus offers residential accommodation to the senior girls. The Hebron School Tamil Nadu is located in Ootacamund (or Udagamandalam / Ooty). The Lushington school campus is built on an area of 20 acres land. The student body represents 22 countries. The Staff members for the school are recruited from India, UK, and other western or Commonwealth countries.

In the beginning of Std.10, students start off with their UK International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examinations which are held at the end of Std.11.

GCE 'AS' and 'A' Level (Higher Secondary/Pre-University)

The General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level courses are offered to students of Stds.12 and 13. Four 'AS' courses are taught in Std. 12. Then 'A2' level, courses are after completing the full 'A' level. The following 'AS' and 'A' level courses are also offered.

Healthcare is offered by non-resident School Doctor, a resident trained Nurse and two trained Day Nurses. Regular health check up is done.

Co curricular activities are held in normal School day and at weekends. The school also happens to be the center of Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Regular weekend outings and excursions like cycling, hill walking, movies and eating out are organized.

The school maintains several Clubs which encourage the students to take up various activities like sailing, rock-climbing, canoeing, camp-craft and survival, orienteering, mural painting, golf, horse-riding, fishing, community service, first aid, driving and cooking.

Sports:

Apart from attending physical education classes, the students also participate in cross-country, athletics, and swimming. Other than this, the students also take part in sports like badminton, cricket, gymnastics, basketball, hockey, softball, soccer, squash, volleyball and tennis. Swimming is also given a lot of importance.

The school organizes several Inter-House sports where the students belonging to different houses compete with each other. The school also won the Sports Leadership Award in the year 2003-2004.

AccommodationStudents: Children are allotted to dormitory groups in accordance with their age. Younger children are under the care of single house mother Older children are cared by married couple as house-parents. School nurse and caterers are in charge of food and domestic staff. Students are grouped according to sex, and class groups into 'Dorms'. Very little boys and girls stay together in the Lushington Campus. Admission process:
  • Students should be at least 8 years of age for getting admission in standard III.
  • The children of the staffs are admitted at the age of 5 in Junior School. Most students progress to the Higher Secondary stage when they appear for 'A' and 'AS' levels GCE (Cambridge) at the age of 18.
  • All the admissions are at the discretion of the School Council.
  • Priority in admission is given to the students needing the unique international course offered in this school.
  • The students are required to apply not before 18 months before the anticipated date of admission.
  • The Admissions' Committee processes the applications to the School which usually meets in March (for admission in August) and October (for a limited admission in February) every year.
  • Children are required to produce a documentary evidence of their nationality.
  • Boarding is available for students aged 9 years+ and into class V or above

Fee structure:

The tuition fees take into account the main school stationery, and all the educational costs.

Residence fees do not take into account sundries, personal toiletries and other such things.

All foreign students, children of NRIs, and children of the those earning foreign sources are required to pay their fees in foreign currency.

All cheques/payments are payable to 'Hebron School'.

Fees can be paid in advance, before or at the beginning of each term.

Late payment of fees calls for a 2% monthly interest.

A refundable deposit is to be made towards sundries and travel, at the time of joining.

The Refundable Security Deposit is payable before a student first joins the school and is periodically upgraded to cover the full term fee of the current year.

Students who get admitted and reserve a seat in March, but join in February, will have to pay the tuition fees of Term 1.
