About: The whole idea of Sainik School was born in the mind of Late V K Krishna Menon, who felt the need of a school which would teach the military way of life in every state of our country. Situated in Bhubaneswar, the Sainik School gives high levels of physical, mental and intellectual training needed to groom an Officer Cadre. The values taught in Sainik School Bhubaneswar cannot be inculcated in common schools, mainly due to lack of required infrastructure facilities.

Facilities for indoor and outdoor games
There are facilities for both indoor like chess, carom, table tennis and others. The outdoor games comprise of cricket, volleyball, throw ball,basketball and others as the school has a spacious playground.

There are 10 houses including Ganga house, Narmada House, Godavari House, Yamuna House, Brahmaputra House, Mahanadi house, Sutlej House, Krishna house, Gomati House and Narmada House provides accommodation facilities to the students. The senior cadets from class IX to XII stay together in the five of the houses, while the freshers of class VI stay in the Yamuna house. The other cadets from class VII to VIII stay in other four houses. Each house is taken care by the House master in charge,House tutors and Hostel Superintendent. They look to the needs of the cadets for their over all growth. There are about 60 cadets who stay in a house. They are provided with furnitures and state of the art facility to have comfortable stay.

Management: Bhubaneshwar's Sainik School is managed by the three tier management system. Firstly, the main administrative power lies in the hands of Sainik Schools Society, Ministry Defence which is its appex body. Secondly, the Local Board of Administration and the last in the hierarchy is the School staff which comprise of the Principal, Headmaster, Registrar, Academic and the Administrative staff .
Admission process:
The interested students and parents can buy the prospectus which are put up for sale from 1st October to 1st of December. One can buy a prospectus on payment of Rs.325/- for the General / Defense category. For the SC/ST category, the forms are available at the payment of Rs.225/. The payments are received through bank drafts drawn in favor of Sainik School Bhubaneswar. The selection is through an entrance test.

The remaining seats are for the general category students. Normally 33% of seats are reserved for the students of other state categories.
School Uniform:
The cadets wear different kinds of dresses on different occasions. During the PT and games period in the morning, they put on T-shirt of the house they belong to, and short pants. They attend their classes in khaki uniform. They dine in white color uniform. On the booking day they can be seen wearing mufti.
Scholarship programs: The students are offered scholarships through Government of India and Ministry Of Defense. Each student is provided Rs/-10,500/ per year, irrespective of the income status of the parent. In addition to this the Government of Orissa also provides limited scholarship to the domiciled students based on the income status of the parents.
Fee structure: The parents are supposed to pay an amount of Rs.55,982/- per annum. This includes all expenses of the students.
Career:
The Sainik School Bhubaneswar is the only institution in the state that imparts military education . In a away it prepares the students physically and mentally to pursue a career as the future officers of the Indian armed forces. The cadets undergo rigorous sessions of training. Every year a good number of cadets from this school join National Defence Academy which is in Khadakwasla, Pune. The faculties also put their heart and soul in grooming the students.
