Sainik School in Korukonda is one of the several residential schools in India. It was established to pay homage to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, and Shri V.K Krishna Menon, the former Defense Minister. The school started functioning on 10th September 1961 when Smt Bhagirathi Devi, Rani Saheb of Vizianagaram donated the Korukonda Palace to Shri P.V.G. Raju, Raja of Vizianagaram who in turn gifted this piece of land to build a sainik school. T De Almeida became the first principal of the school.

Activities:
Co-curricular activities: NCC training is a part of the curriculum. The school imparts training in all three wings of NCC - Army, Navy and Air Force.
The other activities of the school include trekking, mountaineering, cycling, rock climbing, Para sailing and scuba diving. The cadets are trained to attend all India NCC camps. Some of them also attended the prestigious Republic Day Camp at Delhi.
Sports: The school offers facilities for playing games like billiards, badminton, lawn and table tennis and a shooting range. The school has appointed well trained coaches who will train the students to participate in the state and national-level championships. The school every year participates in the Sainik School Society and the national shooting championship of Andhra Pradesh . The students are also imparted training in yoga and martial arts. Here is also a horse riding club.
Achievements: The school has maintained an excellent academic record. The students have been awarded the NTSE scholarship every year. The Sainik School Korukonda has won Sainik Schools South Zone championship at least four times. The students also glorified the school by winning number of prizes in football, volleyball, hockey and basketball competition in Sainik Schools South Zone Championship held in the year 2005.

Management: The administration of the school lies in the hands of an autonomous body known as Sainik schools Society. This society has a Board of Governors consisting of the Union Minister of Defence and Director (TRG) and two Service Officers of the rank of Colonel. Apart from this, the school also has a local board of administration to look after the day to day affairs.
Admission process: The children of the defence personnel and the wards of the service personnel including ex-servicemen get 25% reservation. 15% of the total seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes.
Scholarship programs: Scholarship is granted to the children on the basis of the monthly income of the parents. The merit scholarships is granted on the basis of performance in the entrance examination. The children of defence personnel also get scholarships. The Ministry of Defence also formed a scheme for sharing the burden of increased fees for the parents. In that every student gets approximately Rs.8000/- per year irrespective of their parents monthly income.
Fee structure: The school fees is Rs. 22000/- per annum. However, he school fess is subject to revision from time to time. The diet charges are Rs. 6050/- per annum. For more details on fee structure the parents are requested to contact the school authorities.
