About: Sainik School Purulia is one of the residential schools in India. This is among the Sainik Schools set all over India following the order of the Ministry of Defense. This boarding school of India was established in 1962. The School was set with an aim to eradicate any form of regional disparity in the official ranks of Indian Defense services.

NCC: This is one of the compulsory activities of the students. Training of the cadets is done by a trained instructor. JD NCC and SD NCC are the two junior and senior divisions of NCC. The students are awarded with qualifying certificates after passing Class XII.

Management:
The management of the school is handled by the Board of Governors, which has Union Minister of Defence as the Chairman.
The Board of governors consists of Ministers of Education of states and Chief Ministers.
Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Defense is the Honorary Secretary, he looks after the every day functioning of the school.
Officers of the Colonel/Brigadier rank assists the Secretary.
The local management body consists of a Chairman who is a senior defense officer.
This local board meets up regularly to assess the improvement of the school and adopt new measures for further development.
Admission process:
Admission is strictly based on merit basis and medical fitness.
All the students aspiring for admission have to appear for the All India Sainik schools Entrance Examination, which takes place at various centers all over the state.
The admission test is followed by an interview, held in the school premises.
60 % is the overall percentage required to apply for admission.
Medical examination will be conducted on the eligible candidates.
Age : For Admission in Class VI, the minimum age for the boys is 10 years and for Class XI it is 13.
Reservation:
There is 67% reservation for boys from West Bengal
33% seats are reserved for other states.
25 % seats are reserved for the wards of the Defense personnels and ex-servicemen.
15% and 7.5 % seats are reserved for SC and ST students.
Admission test : Maths, Language , IQ, English, Science and social science are the common subjects for admission test. Subjects vary for different classes.
Scholarship programs:The school offers scholarships to deserving candidates.
The Govt. of West Bengal Merit-cum-Means scholarship, this scholarship is offered by the govt. of West Bengal under these provisions:
A minimum aggregate percentage of 50% is required to be score in the entrance examination, on basis of which application can be made.
The student should be an inhabitant of West Bengal.
The student should be declared physically fit in the medical examination.
In order to continue with the scholarship, every year 45% marks has to be secured.
Parents' income determines scholarship as:
Full scholarship is given to those whose parents earn within Rs. 5500 p.m . For general category, Rs.10500 per annum is the rate of scholarship. This extends to Rs.14000 per year for students belonging to the SC or ST category.
¾ scholarship is given to wards of parents whose income is between Rs5500 to Rs.8000. For SC/ST it is Rs. 10500 and Rs.7875 for the general category.
½ scholarship is paid when the income is between Rs.8000 and Rs.10000. In this case, SC/ST students get Rs.7000 and General category students get Rs.5350
40% scholarship is granted to those with an income above Rs.10000 per month. Rs.2400 for the general category bots and Rs.5600 for the SC/ST boys.
Govt. Of West Bengal Merit Scholarship:
Merit scholarships are awarded to 2 boys who secures a place among the first 10 ranks. This reward is awarded to those getting 65% and above in the Class VI entrance , irrespective of their parents' income is .
Provisions :
The parents have to agree with the terms and conditions laid down in the scholarship rules.
Parents should be a resident of West Bengal
This scholarship will be canceled if the students is getting some other scholarship form else where.
Scholarship is retained on the basis of reports form Principals, medical fitness and performance in the annual exams.
Scholarship by Ministry of Defense:
Under this scheme, Rs.10000 is awarded every year with an aim to help the parents financially.
Amount of Rs.10,500 is given out per year to students of Defense category.
NCC Scholarship:
NCC Directorate gives out scholarship of Rs.5000 to meritorious cadets. These NCC cadets also get Shara Scholarship worth Rs.5000.
