The American Society of Travel Agents Scholarships forms an integral part of the educational and career development programs undertaken by the American Society of Travel Agents.
The American Society of Travel Agents better known as ASTA is known worldwide as the world's largest organization of travel professionals. Members of this association include travel agents and companies involved in the travel industry. Established as the American Steamship and Tourist Agent's Association in 1931, ASTA now has members in 140 countries across the globe.
The ASTA Foundation, a non-profit organization, provides more than 20 scholarships in bachelors, masters, doctoral, community college to travel school program, to deserving students. It also assists professionals engaged in the travel industry who seek to broaden their knowledge horizon in this field.
Types of Scholarships :

Eligibility:
Candidates applying for scholarships must comply with a general set of rules to make themselves eligible for a scholarship under the ASTA Foundation. There are certain additional requirements for some special scholarships also.
David J Hallissey Memorial Scholarship :
The David J Hallissey Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of the son of ASTA's past chairman, Joseph H Hallissey for conducting path-breaking research in the field of tourism. The scholarship provides opportunities to interns to work with ASTA's Research Department in Alexandria. The interns are given a scholarship ranging from $ 1,000 to $ 1,500 based on the period of internship. There are 3 internship programs available every year for which the date of commencement, working hours and period of internship depends on the nature of the project undertaken.
