Introduction:

The Fellowships in Criminology/Police Science/Forensic Science from the Bureau of Police Research and Development were instituted by the Bureau of Police Research and Development to promote and develop studies in the various aspects of police and prison rules, regulations and reforms.

The Bureau of Police Research and Development was established in August 1970 with the sole objective of having an independent organization, which would cater to the various requirements, issues and problems of the Indian Police. The Bureau of Police Research and Development is a dedicated unit of the Indian Police which concentrates on the following areas:
  • Rules and Regulations concerning the police force in general with special emphasis on the prisons
  • Application of modern scientific technology to the daily work requirements of the police force
  • Evaluation of the various existing arrangements in the police force
  • Devising plans and programs for requisite trainings to be imparted in the prisons
  • Providing valuable advice to the Ministry of Home Affairs on the working of the police force and prison rules and regulations
  • Improvement and overall development of forensic sciences on an all-India basis
Eligibility:

Fellowships in Criminology/Police Science and Forensic Science from the Bureau of Police Research and Development have the following eligibility criteria:

Eligibility criteria for fellowship in Criminology and Police Science:
  • Candidates should be below 30 years of age
  • Should have a post graduation degree with at least 55% marks in Criminology or Sociology or Social Work or Psychology or Social Anthropology or
  • Public Administration or Political Science or Law. Candidates must necessarily have a 2nd class Bachelor’s degree in any one of the aforesaid subjects
Eligibility criteria for fellowship in Forensic Science:
  • Candidates should either have a 1st or 2nd class Master’s Degree in Science
  • Should have passed the UGC conducted CSIR examination
  • Candidates should either be registered or get themselves registered in a Ph.D course in an Indian University of repute. This registration should
  • take place within 3 months of the candidate’s selection for the Fellowship
Duration :

The Bureau of Police Research and Development grants 6 Fellowships per year for a period of 3 years.

Application procedure for Fellowships in Criminology/Police Science/Forensic Science from the Bureau of Police Research and Development:

Applications should be forwarded to the Bureau of Police Research and Development as per approved format within the fixed date notified in the media.

Value of Fellowships :
  • The Fellowship amount ranges between Rs.2500/- – Rs. 2800/- per month.
  • Additionally a contingency allowance of Rs.5000/- per year is also given
  • An overhead charge of Rs.3,000/- per year is paid to the institution where the research work is being carried out
