Introduction:
While reviewing the field of creative arts, the Department of Culture, Govt. of India came to the conclusion that no schemes providing financial support to creative artists were available in the country. |
It was also felt that such a scheme should be implemented at the earliest to revive the country’s traditional art forms. With this thought in mind it was decided that a scheme of awarding fellowships to exemplary performers in various creative fields would be introduced.
This scheme, known as the ‘Scheme for the Award of Fellowships to Outstanding Artists in the fields of Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts’ is made available to artists in rural and tribal areas
Eligibility:
- Applicants are required to provide documentary evidence in support of her credentials
- Applicants for Senior Fellowships should not be a pensioner from the Department of Culture, Govt. of India
- Once an applicant has been awarded a Fellowship, he / she shall not be eligible for a second Fellowship before completion of 5 years from the date of completion of the earlier one
Value of Scholarship
There are 2 types of scholarships under the scheme- (a) Senior Fellowship and (b) Junior Fellowship. Under the Senior Fellowship category, there are 85 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 12,000 each per month, for artists aged 40 years and above. The Junior Fellowship is also 85 in number but for an amount of Rs. 6000/- each, per month for artists aged between 25 and 40 years, as on the 1st of April.
Application Procedure:
Applications for award of the Fellowship are accepted every year in a prescribed format, from Indian nationals. A committee of experts from various fields is formed by the Department of Culture, Govt. of India. The committee reviews all the applications and finally selects the successful candidates for a particular year.
