Introduction:
The Indian Council of Historical Research National Fellowships are awarded generally to reputed historians who show keen interest in doing further research. ICHR that came into existence in 1972 is an independent organization, which is a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Eligibility for the ICHR National Fellowships:
The National Research Fellowships granted by the Indian Council of Historical Research are generally provided to:
- Reputed and established historians in universities, colleges and other institutions already experienced in research work having the potential for further career advancement However, in certain cases, the national fellow may not have to be associated with such educational institutes and in such cases he / she will receive the grants directly.
- Those historians who are already employed in either a college or a university or any other institute
Duration of the National Fellowships:
The Indian Council of Historical Research National Fellowships are awarded for a maximum period of 2 years which can be extended by another one year in certain exceptional cases.
Application Procedure:
The printed application form, published along with the notification, should be submitted, complete in all respects to the Indian Council of Historical Research 35, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi 110001, within the prescribed date. Applications should be routed through the university, college or institute where the applicant is employed. The application should be accompanied by the following documents:
- 5 copies of exhaustive note on the research plan
- Curriculum Vitae of the applicant
Value of Scholarships :
- A monthly allowance of Rs.25, 000/- per month, along with a yearly contingency allowance of Rs.50, 000/- . In cases where a National Fellowship is given to a scholar already in service, the fellowship will keep his salary and allowances secure. The Council also provides for his leave allowance and contribution towards pension fund.
