Introduction:
The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) Ph.D. Fellowships are granted to research scholars so that they can gain adequate training and expertise in their relevant fields of study.Founded in the year 1972, by the eminent professor, V.K.R.V.Rao, the Institute for Social and Economic Change also known popularly as ISEC, is an educational institute of academic excellence.
Its main goal is to render training and guidance to individuals of exceptional merit in the various subjects of social science, so as to enable them pursue their objectives of becoming dedicated teachers and expert research scholars.
A maximum of 12 Fellowships (1 Fellowship under the ‘salary protection scheme’) are given to candidates selected by the ISEC and ICSSR in tandem. The ISEC Ph.D Fellowships have gained affiliation from the Osmania University, Karnataka University, Mangalore University, Mysore University and the National Law School Bangalore. The ISEC is supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research or ICSSR.
Eligibility Criteria for the Ph.D Fellowships from the Institute for Social and Economic Change:
The criteria for eligibility in respect of the PhD Fellowships are the following:
- Applicant must have obtained a post-graduation degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks in the aggregate
- There is no age limit for ISEC Fellowships
- Applicant should have passed the UGC conducted NET or JRF examination
- Candidates awaiting post-graduation results can also apply. However, in this case their applications will be taken up for consideration only after they submit authenticated copies of their results.
Duration:
The Institute for Economic & Social Change Ph.D. Fellowships are for a period of 3 years, although it might sometimes take 4 years to complete the program.
Application procedure for the Institute for Social and Economic Change Ph.D Fellowships:
Applications for the Ph.D. Fellowship program are called for every year on an all-India basis and the notification is published in the official media and posted in the official website. The necessary application forms and other important papers can be obtained either personally or by forwarding a Demand Draft of Rs.50/- in favor of the ‘Registrar, ISEC, Bangalore’ along with a self-addressed stamped envelope. In case of SC/ST candidates, a Demand Draft of only Rs.10/- is required to be sent.
Value of Scholarships :
- For NET or UGC qualified candidates the amount of financial assistance made available is Rs.6, 000/-per month. For non-qualified students the scholarship amount is Rs.5, 000/-.
- Candidates are also entitled to a yearly contingency grant of Rs.12, 000 during the entire period of the fellowship.
- Candidates who are under the ‘salary protection scheme’ will be given their salary for a period of 2 years in addition to the contingency grant
- Candidates under the part time fellowship scheme will not be given either fellowship or contingency grant.
