Though the socio economic status of a rural family is not taken into consideration for admission to this school, an admission test called the All India Entrance Exam is held every year to select the most deserving candidates. A student should be at least nine years of age to sit for this examination. The male students belonging to general category have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 200 from class IX whereas for the girl students, it is free. Besides studies, the government of India also provides food and accommodation facilities to needy students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
