Kendriya Vidyalayas

Kendriya Vidyalayas are a chain of institutions administered and managed by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. It generally caters to the academic needs of the wards of the central government employees who have transferable jobs. All the Kendriya Vidyalayas are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE. Uniform curriculum is followed in all the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools so that the students don’t have to face any problems when their parents get transferred to other locations. Kendriya Vidyalayas were previously known as Central School. In order to give it a more Indian look, the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya. In addition to the schools in India, you can also come across four Kendriya Vidyalayas operating in Moscow, Kuwait, Kathmandu and Tehran.

Features of Kendriya Vidyalayas
All the Kendriya Vidyalayas are co-educational and the medium of instruction used here is English and Hindi. Students of these schools are taught Sanskrit from classes V to IX. No education fee is charged from female students and SC/ST students. Boys up to standard VIII are also not required to pay any tuition fee.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission
All the Kendriya Vidyalayas follow the same admission rules and regulation as specified by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Children of transferable and non-transferable central government and state government employees are given special preference during the time of admission. Preference is also given to wards of non-transferable and transferable employees of public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies and government of India Institute of Higher Learning. Candidates seeking admission to Class I should be at least 5 years of age as on 31st March of the academic year in which seeking admission. There is a fixed upper age limit for admission in every class. No admission test is conducted for students seeking admission to class I. Admission test is conducted for admission to higher classes and merit list is prepared keeping in mind the priority category as mentioned by the institution. The average Kendriya Vidyalaya results have also been found to be good. This offers a glimpse of the educational excellence of the institute.
