Medical College Admission Test, MCAT

Medical College Admission Test, MCAT is a standardized, computer-based examination, the score of which needs to be submitted in most of the medical colleges in Canada and United States as part of the admission process. MCAT is designed by the Association of American Medical Colleges that consists of three multiple sections and one writing assessment. It helps to measure critical thinking, problem solving, writing skills and written analysis along with the knowledge of scientific principles and concepts of the applicants. Majority of medical schools in United States require submission of MCAT scores, which is not more than 3 years old.
MCAT schedule

Medical College Admission Test, MCAT is held full day containing four sections such as Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, Biological Sciences and Writing Sample. The Physical Sciences section consists of the questions on general chemistry and physics. The Biological Sciences section has the questions on biology and organic chemistry. All the sections except Writing Sample feature multiple-choice format. They are marked on a scale ranging from 1-15. The writing samples are scored twice on a scale of 1-6. The raw scores on Writing Sample are then converted into alphabetical score.

Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences access the analytical and logical cognitive abilities. The Verbal Reasoning section tests the understanding of various subtleties associated with human communication and understanding.

For writing Assessment you will have to write two 30-minute essays that would test the ability to develop a central idea, synthesizing concepts and ideas, presenting ideas cohesively and logically and writing clearly.

MCAT Score

Medical College Admission Test, MCAT is sensitive to the differences in the aptitude or capacity in particular areas. The scores for three multiple-choice sections are between the ranges of 1 to 15. The scores of Writing Sample range from J to T. The numerical scores from every section are added to decide the final score. The score of Writing Sample is appended to the final score.
