TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required to study in most of English speaking countries. It is considered as the internationally accepted measure of academic proficiency of English. The test was conducted in 1964 for the first time. It is administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) throughout the world. It is accepted by most of the universities of United States and some of the universities in United Kingdom. In total there are more than 6000 institutes spread over 110 countries that accept the TOEFL score. The required score ranges from 70-100. There are over 4,000 test centers for TOEFL all over the world. Test format

The registration for TOEFL can be done over the phone, online, by mail or in person at Resource Centers. The test is conducted in various formats depending upon the location. You can either take the paper based TOEFL test or Internet based TOEFL Test. The skill of reading, writing, listening and speaking English of the applicant is accessed through this test. The applicants should bring registration number and valid identification on the test day. They must bring driving license or passport with photo, name and signature or state ID issued by the motor vehicle agency or Military ID with name, signature and photo or government-issued ID.

In the internet-based TOEFL, there are 4 sections to be solved on the same day. Each section offers 30 points. The highest possible score in the test is 120. The Section 1 is of reading for 60-100 minutes. The second section consists of listening comprehension to be completed in 60 to 90 minutes. The third section features speaking for 20 minutes. In the fourth section, two essays are to be written in 50 minutes. The internet based test includes four sections such as listening comprehension, structure, reading comprehension and vocabulary and essay writing. This test is conducted for four and half hours. In the paper-based test, there are four sections such as listening, structure and written expression, reading comprehension and writing. This test lasts for about 4 hours.

TOEFL scores

To earn the optimum score in Test of English as a Foreign Language, the candidate should answer at least 1 question in Reading section, 1 question in Listening section. He/she must write at east one essay in the Writing section. The candidate should finish minimum one task in the Speaking section. Both the Internet Based TOEFL score (TOEFL iBT) and Paper Based TOEFL Scores are valid for 2 years from the date of the test.
