About Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce
Brihan College of Commerce or BMCC, as it is popularly known, was established in 1943 by the Deccan Education Society. Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce was thus named as it received an amount of Rs. 2,00,000 as donation from Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd. BMCC is situated in Pune at the foothill of Ferguson College and it has recently earned the award of 'College with potential for excellence' from UGC. The achievement was a result of combination of various factors.
Apart from the dedication of the highly qualified faculty members, the developed infrastructure at BMCC also played a major role in making it one of the best commerce colleges in India.
It has two major assembly halls, a full-fledged sports ground, student's hostels and common rooms for both boys and girls. The library of BMCC is also well stocked.
BMCC Admissions
Admissions to first year B.Com and Vocational courses starts immediately after 12th results of Maharashtra Board are announced. Admission to M.Com courses starts in the month of July.
Admissions to the XI th and XII th standard at the BMCC junior college starts immediately after the Pune SSC Board results are declared. The Deputy director of Pune regulates admissions to both the classes and no donation is accepted.
Admission notification for the Post Graduate Diploma in banking and finance comes out in the month of June and any graduate from any recognized university is eligible to apply for the course. The course fee of this 1-year course is Rs.8000/ plus a refundable deposit of 11000/.
Admissions to First Year Degree Level Course at BMCC are based on percentage of marks at the H.S.C. level. Admissions details to this course are provided to the students after admissions to first year degree course is completed.
Courses at BMCC
Brihan Maharashtra college of Commerce or BMCC offers a variety of courses to the students. One can join BMCC soon after the Xth standard and can pursue XI th and XII th standard. Other courses available at BMCC are:-
- 3 year B.com course
- 2 year M.com course.
- M.Phil & Ph.D programme
- 1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance
- Vocational at First-degree level- B.com Vocational with computer applications/Tax procedures and practices. This course is sponsored by UGC and it has 30 seats.
- BMCC is also a study center for the MBA programme of Yashantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University

Short Term Courses at BMCC
Apart from all these BMCC is also offering short term courses in Computerized Accounts writing, Business Journalism, Business English, certificate course in travel and tourism, Public relations and event management,
Certificate Course in Travel and Tourism: It is a short-term course of 6 months duration and the minimum eligibility is XIIth pass. The course fee is Rs.1500/
Public Relations and Event Management: This short-term course includes 8 months training and 3 months job training. Candidates should pass the 12th standard to be eligible to apply for this course. The course fee is Rs.1500 plus Rs.1000 for practical.
Business English: One can apply for this course after the Xth standard. The course is of 8 months duration and the course fee is Rs. 1000/.
Business Journalism: This short-term course at BMCC includes 4 months training and 3 months job training. Candidates who have passed the XII th standard can apply for this course. The total course fee is Rs.3500/ that includes the fee for the practical.
