Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is a premier institute providing medical education in India. It is located in the western entrance of Pondicherry. Although Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research got its present name only in 1964 after the de facto transfer of Pondicherry from the French government to the Government of India in 1956, its history can be traced back to 1823 when the French government established a medical school called "Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry". JIPMER is affiliated to the Pondicherry University. The primary function of JIPMER is to impart quality education in undergraduate and postgraduate courses but it is also active in research in various fields of modern medicine.
Admission to MBBS course at JIPMER: Admission to the MBBS course at JIPMER is done through an entrance examination conducted every year.
JIPMER MBBS Entrance Test 2007: In 2007 the JIPMER MBBS entrance test will be held on 27th may 2007 from 10 a. to 12.30 pm.
Last date of submission of application forms: 28th March 2007
Along with the application forms candidates should also send a DD of Rs 350(Rs 250 for SC / ST candidates drawn from any nationalized bank in favor of the Accounts Officer, JIPMER, PUDUCHERRY payable at Puducherry.
The handicapped candidates should send their medical certificate and SC/ST candidates should send community certificate along with the DD and application form.
Examination Centers: The MBBS entrance test will be held at Puducherry, Chennai Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Thiruvanthapuram.
Eligibility for MBBS Entrance, JIPMER: Candidates who are appearing in the 12th standard or have passed the examination with 50% marks in PCB (40% for SC/ST candidates) are eligible to appear in the MBBS entrance of Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical research and Training. There are 75 seats for the MBBS course out of which 20 seats are reserved for Pondicherry natives.
Admission to the Post Graduate degree courses at JIPMER: Students are admitted to the postgraduate and diploma courses at JIPMER once in a year through an entrance examination. The notification for this entrance examination generally comes out in the month of December. Admission to all other courses at JIPMER is done through common entrance test, the notification of which will come out in due course of time.
Undergraduate courses at JIPMER: MBBS, B.Sc. Medical laboratory Technology, B.M.R.Sc. (Bachelor of Medical record Science)
Post Graduate courses at JIPMER: M.D., M.S. and Diploma, M.Sc. in Medical Biochemistry and Ph.D. full time.
Super specialty courses at JIPMER: M.Ch. in cardio thoracic surgery, M.ch in urology. Apart from all these courses JIPMER also offers a certificate course and higher diploma course in French, MRO and MRT courses.
JIPMER Application procedure
- The prospectus and Application Forms are obtained on cash payment of Rs.500 (unreserved) and Rs.400 (SC/ST) from the Bank of Baroda Extension Counter.
- The applications are available on all working days from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm on Saturdays.
You can obtain the application forms by post from Professor (Academic), JIPMER, Puducherry-605006 till 27th March 2008.
- A Bank Draft of Rs.500 (Unreserved) and Rs.400 (SC/ST) has to be drawn in favor of "Accounts Officer, JIPMER" payable at any Nationalized Bank in Puducherry, Union Territory along with a 10 cm x 7 cm Self Addressed Label.
- For online application you have to mention the Draft details in the form. Take the print out of the form and furnish it with your signature, left thumb print and photograph.
- The DD and the form are to be sent by Speed Post to the Professor (Academic), JIPMER, Puducherry-605006 by 31st March, 2008.
- The form has to be accompanied by attested copies of SC/ST certificates, medical certificate in case of disability.
JIPMER MBBS Entrance Test Pattern
The entrance test is based on Class 11 and 12 standards of CBSE /Higher Secondary syllabus.
The question paper contains multiple choice questions of 200 marks on subjects like, English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.
For each correct answer you get one mark and there is no negative marking for the wrong answers.
