INTRODUCTION
This premier institution is named after one of the greatest patriots that India's freedom struggle produced-Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad. Maulana Azad Medical College or MAMC, as it is popularly known came into existence in Delhi in 1959. Located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi, MAMC has three associated hospitals, Lok Nayak hospital, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, and Guru Nanak Eye Centre. MAMC was set up primarily to produce competent basic doctors, specialists and super specialists so that they can contribute effectively towards national health care delivery system by providing medical services through its associated hospitals.
Maulana Azad medical College provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The recreational facilities at MAMC are also superb. It is equipped with swimming pool, basketball courts, carom boardrooms, volleyball courts, snooker tables, table tennis tables and Badminton Courts.
It also has a large open ground that can be used for football and cricket. All these with a centrally air-conditioned library make up a healthy environment for the students to study.
MAMC Admissions
Admission to Undergraduate Courses at MAMC:
Admission for the undergraduate courses at Maulana Azad Medical College is based on the performance of the candidates in the Delhi Pre-medical Test (DPMT). DPMT is conducted to admit students for two other medial colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi. They are Lady Hardinge Medical College and University College of Medical Sciences & GTB Hospital. Candidates should have at least 50% (40% for SC/ST) marks in PCB and one elective subject. Admission notification for the DPMT generally comes out in the month of February.
Admission to Post Graduate Courses at Maulana Azad Medical College: Admission to 75% of the seats of the postgraduate courses at Maulana Azad Medical College is based on the performance of the candidates in the Post Graduate Medical Entrance Test (PGMET), conducted by the University of Delhi. Only medical graduates of Delhi University are eligible to appear for the PGMET. In 2007 the entrance test was held on 10th February. 25% of the seats are filled through All India PG Entrance Examination.
Courses at MAMC
Undergraduate Courses at MAMC: Maulana Azad Medical College has 180 seats for the MBBS course and 20 seats for the BDS course. The MBBS course is of five and half years duration including one year of compulsory internship and the BDS course is of five years duration including one year of internship.
Postgraduate courses at Maulana Azad Medical College:Maulana Azad medical College offers 62 seats for the MD course and 25 seats for the MS course. It also offers 26 seats for the postgraduate diploma courses. MD and MS courses are of 3 years duration while the diploma courses are of 2 years duration.
