North Eastern Hill University (NEHU)was established by an Act of parliament on 26th May 1973 with its head quarter at Shillong covering north east states and Union Territories. NEHU has 28 departments with 4 centers of studies under its 6 schools. Currently there are 65 under graduate colleges affiliated under this university with 8 professional courses.

NEHU has a Central Library which boasts of a huge collection of books on various subjects .Scholarships are provided by NEHU to needy and brilliant students.

NEHU has a study center of IGNOU(Indira Gandhi National Open University) which offers various undergraduate courses and certificate pro grammes.
Application forms can be obtained from the office of the DSW, Permanent Campus, NEHU, Shillong-793022 during office hours from the month of May or June.
Candidates who appear in MAT-Test and are eager to take admission in MBA pro gramme are required to fill up the NEHU application form mentioning their respective MAT score. The application form with the prospectus can be obtained either individually or by post from the office of the Dean, Students Welfare, NEHU, Shilong - 793022 or from the office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Tura Campus Chandmari, Tura-794002, Meghalaya by paying Rs. 100 through DD in favour of North-Eastern Hill University payable at Shilong or through Challan available at NEHU, Shilong or Tura Campus..
