The University of Hyderabad is a Central University established in the year 1974. Situated on the Hyderabad-Mumbai highway about 20 kms from the city of Hyderabad, the University has the repute of being one of the best in the country in terms of quality of education imparted and research activities carried out. Within the boundary of the University is a separate campus known as the 'Golden Threshold', the house of the deceased Sarojini Naidu, an eminent citizen of the city.
While the Sarojini Naidu School is within the boundaries of the 'Golden Threshold' the rest of the schools under the University are located in the central campus of the University known as Gachibowli. The 'Golden Threshold' also houses the Centre for Folk Culture Studies |

System of Education and Assessment in the University: The University has a student-teacher ratio of 1 teacher for every 9 students, which according to Indian standards is exceptional. The courses in the University are taught in semesters. Two semesters, each having a duration of 16-18 weeks make an academic year and the performance of students are assessed continuously through class work, practical work and outdoor activities. The final outcome is arrived at by evaluating the periodic assessments and the results of the last semester examinations.
A student must secure at least 40% marks in order to pass the Masters in Arts, Science and other disciplines. Students getting less than 40% marks in any semester are required to take supplementary tests during the first week of the next semester.
