Indian School of Mines(ISM), Dhanbad was established by the viceroy of India, Lord Irwin in 9 December,1926 on the model of Royal School of Mines. In 1997 the institute conducted admission through the entrance exam conducted by IIT(Indian Institute of Technology),
Benaras Hindu University and ISM. The School was bestowed upon the university status by the UGC Act in 1967. in 1996 the School came under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Situated over a spread of 208 acres of land, the university has 110 staffs,1500 students.

Admission procedures for B. Tech and MBA courses at ISM University
B.Tech
ISM admits students to its B. Tech pro grammes on All-India basis since 1997, through the IIT-JEE exam.
Eligibility : The minimum academic qualification for admission through JEE is a pass grade in 10+2 or its equivalent.
Selection : JEE is a bi - selection process constituting a screening test followed by a main examination-
1. The Screening Test will have one combined paper of three hours duration in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, with equal marks weightage for each subject. The question will be objective in nature.
2. The Main Examination will have three separate non objective papers in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, each of two hours duration. Those who willqualify in the Screening Test will be eligible to appear in the Main Examination
MBA
Eligibility: A Bachelor's degree (10+2+3) in any discipline, B. Tech., B. Pharm or equivalent with
minimum 55% marks in aggregate. For Honors graduates the average will include marks
of both Honors and Pass Papers.
Selection: Applicant shall have to crack the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIMs..
Candidates selected on the basis of CAT score will be called to attend Group Discussion and Interview for final selection procedure.
