The K.L.E. Academy of Higher Education and Research, Belgaum became a Deemed University under the University Grants Commission's Act, on 13th April, 2006. It is the first institute in North Karnataka to become a deemed university and has under its fold two colleges i.e. Jawarharlal Nehru Medical College Belgaum and the Institute of Dental Sciences also in Belgaum. The K.L.E. Academy of Higher Education and Research is an educational institute set up initially by the Karnataka Lingavat Education Society with the objective of providing top quality education particularly in the area of health and medical sciences. The Karnataka Lingavat Education Society has now spread its wings to include almost 200 institutes.

The Institute plans to include within its fold colleges having specialized courses in pharmacy, nursing sciences and physiotherapy. With a long term vision of imparting quality education, the institute strives to transcend newer horizons backed by its superb infrastructure, dedicated faculties and committed staff and students.
Mr. Prabhakar B Kore, a dynamic personality in the field of education, politics and agriculture is the Chancellor of the Institute

Entrance Examination: Candidates who have appeared / passed their Higher Secondary or (10 + 2) Examinations are eligible to apply for the All India Entrance Examinations, for enrolment in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum and the Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum. The entrance examinations are normally held during end May. While the applications fees is Rs. 500/- the entrance test fee is Rs.1000/-

Eligibility: The eligibility for admission to the various courses in the K.L.E. Academy of Higher Education and Research is as per the guidelines, rules and regulations of the Medical Council of India
Reservation of Seats
- 15% of the seats are earmarked by the management for Non-Resident Indians and foreign students. This is as per guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resources and Development.

Other Fees : Rs. 40, 000/-
- BDS : Tution Fees: Rs. 2 lacs
Other Fees : Rs. 30,000/-
