The National Institute of Technology, Calicut (Kozikhode) (NITC) was set up as a Regional Engineering College, to foster technical and engineering education in the country during one of the Five Year Plans. The institute became a Deemed University in the year 2002 and is a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1960. As per the rules and regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), NITC is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. The Chairman heads the Board of Directors and the Director looks after the regular functioning of the institute.

The National Institute of Technology, Calicut, is nestled at the base of the Western Ghats and is about 20 kilometres away from the city of Calicut. It is one of the leading institutes in India providing technical and engineering education to thousands of students from all over India. It aims to achieve excellence by training students in the latest and most modern technological advancements in the field of technical studies. It also caters to their all round development by providing state-of-the-art facilities in academics, sports, personality development, information technology etc.

Admission :
Students desirous of pursuing an undergraduate course in the NITC are required to qualify in the All India Engineering Entrance Examinations organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Those who have completed undergraduate courses in Engineering and wish to continue with their studies i.e. enrol for M.Tech and Ph.D have to qualify in the GATE examinations conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology. For the MCA courses, the entrance is through the NIMCET examinations conducted by the National Institutes of Technology, jointly.
