The National Institute of Technology (NIT),Hamirpur, is a Deemed University as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act. Located in Anu, in the district of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, the institute is one of the best of its kind in the country. It is on the National Highway which passes through Hamirpur and goes to Toni Devi. It is located on a hilly terrain and is perched atop the Dhauladhar range of mountains.
Established as a Regional Engineering College with the initiative of the State and the Central Government in the year 1986, this institute has now become a deemed university. NIT Hamirpur runs courses and various programs in undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral fellowships in engineering, sciences and humanities. The institute aims to inculcate a feeling of national integration and brotherhood among its students by taking in candidates from all over India on the basis of merit. It trains its students to achieve high social and moral values so as to become hardworking, honest and noble citizens of the country and contribute effectively towards the common goal of taking the country forward.

The Institute of Hamirpur currently has the following Departments :

Admission :
The students in the undergraduate courses are taken on the basis of their performance in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination conducted by the CBSE Board and the students in the post-graduate streams are taken through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE. The academic year commences in August every year and continues till the end of May.
Courses :
The institute has adopted a semester system of education and each year consists of an odd and an even semester. The candidates in the engineering stream are required to complete 8 semesters to get a B.Tech degree while those in the architecture stream need to complete 10 semesters to acquire a B.Arch degree. For acquiring a post -graduate degree or M. Tech. four semesters are required to be completed by candidates.
