National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli

The National Institute of Technology,Tiruchirapalli is situated in the temple town of Tiruchirapalli also known a Trichy, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Initially known as Regional Engineering College Tiruchirapalli, this college of engineering and technology became a Deemed University in the year 2003. The institute is registered under the Indian Societies Act, 1960 and is governed by a Board of Directors. Mr. P.Chidambaram, the Hon'ble Finance Minister of India, is the Director of the Institute while Mr. R. Seshashayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland is the Chairman of the Institute. The institute has very recently received a generous grant from the World Bank and is in the process of expansion.

Since its inception, Regional Engineering College,Trichy now known as National Institute of Technology, Trichy, has provided quality education to its students through academically well qualified and trained faculties. The institute has, besides striving for academic excellence, encouraged its students to contribute meaningfully to social causes thereby utilizing their intellectual capacity to the fullest extent. It has also encouraged the students to involve themselves in enterprising activities in the field of technology. With students drawn from all over the country, NIT Tiruchirapalli, fosters national integration among its students and provides ground for healthy competition in academics through continuous evaluation. Tiruchirapalli is well connected by road, rail and air to all parts of the country and abroad.

Admission : Like in all other national institutes of engineering in the country, admission to NIT Tiruchirapalli, in the undergraduate course, can be taken by qualifying in an entrance examination, known as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. For post-graduate or M.Tech. courses the entrance is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering better known as GATE.

Reservations : Half of the total seats in the institute are reserved for students hailing from Tamil Nadu and the rest are for students of other states.
